Nalini Naidoo graduated from the University of KwaZulu Natal with a degree in Fine Arts specialising in Printmaking and Art History.

She then went on to complete her Masters degree (cum laude) in Art History which explored the correlative nature of Indian temple sculpture and the Indian classical dance of Bharatha Natyam.

In this regard she is also a professional Bharatha Natyam performer and instructor and is principal of the Shiva Moon Dance Theatre.

Upon completion of her Masters degree she was employed by the University to teach Art History focussing on Indian art, African art and 20th century South African art. After lecturing at UKZN for five years, she was appointed as Education Curator at the Johannesburg Art Gallery.

Subsequently she taught at various schools in KZN and thereafter taught Art Theory at the Durban University of Technology and presently at the Tshwane University of Technology. Here she teaches Art Theory, Drawing and Communications. She is presently engaged in research for her Phd i n Art Theory.

This study critically evaluates and interrogates the post apartheid art historical narrative of South Africa. It focuses on the neglected visual arts of the Indian community in particular who are celebrating their 150th anniversary in this country.
